Freebird Banner

Freebird - Steve Lawton

Lead Guitar + Backing Vocals

Born Clitheroe, Ribble Valley, Lancashire 25/04/1952.

I played in my first band at age 17 years playing local pubs and clubs around the Burnley area. I then joined local rock group “Seth Bromley Band” in 1971 age 20 years playing mainly original progressive rock music influenced by Pink Floyd, Genesis, Camel etc. I stayed with the band through various personnel changes and eventually the band was renamed “Grendel” which continued until the unit folded in late 1979.
Disillusioned with the advent of punk music I retired from the music scene and did not pick up a guitar for over 16 years.
I was persuaded to come out of retirement in the summer of 1995 to form a local band called “Loose Endz” with fellow musician Tony Ellis which lasted over two years.
I was invited to join established Colne based blues band “Dicko’s Boogie band “ in 1997 and stayed for over four years until a chance meeting with an old school friend and musician Matt Howarth in 2001, whereupon “Freebird “ was born.
